SLAM Hardwood Classics Crewneck - Kevin Garnett (SLAM 113)

One aspect of Kevin Garnett is always missing from the public’s observation. Fair enough. It was difficult to not notice the bugged-out eyes, the pulsing neck veins, the gallons of sweat pouring off his head. It was impossible to not hear the incessant trash talking, accompanied by such creative poetics that Billy Shakespeare would’ve been taking notes. 

The real, the aspect that doesn’t get talked about enough, was hidden under all of that: KG’s heart. 

Not heart like he was some hopeless romantic, pining after unrequited love. 

Heart like desire. 

Heart like passion. 

Heart like competitiveness. 

Heart like ob-fu*&ing-session. 

He N-E-E-D-E-D to win a chip. You thought his body was restless on the court? His soul was so uneasy without a ring that it was flying figure eights around his nonstop feet at 1,000 miles per hour. 

The Celtics acquired KG in July of 2007, he starred on the cover of SLAM 113 in December of ‘07 and he hoisted the Larry O’Brien Trophy in June of ‘08. 

The heart came out while he was on the parquet floor, celebrating his first NBA title. He famously yelled “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!”

That one aspect of Garnett could no longer be looked over. That one aspect actually became what Kevin Garnett was most known for–heart.
